How to level the blade of a bulldozer?

Apr 29, 2026

The grader blade can be adjusted in five forms according to different operation requirements.

1. Adjustment of the cutting angle

The cutting angle refers to the angle formed by the blade tilting forward or backward and the ground. The adjustment steps are as follows:

1. Stop the machine, lower the blade to the ground and keep it perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the machine body.

2. Loosen the locking nut of the tooth plate to separate the tooth plate from the tooth frame.

3. Move the left and right lifting control lever of the blade. When the blade rises, the cutting angle increases; when it lowers, the cutting angle decreases.

4. After adjustment, engage the tooth plate with the tooth frame and tighten the fixing nut and the locking nut.

2. Adjustment of the plane angle

The plane angle refers to the angle formed by the blade tilting left or right and the longitudinal line of the machine body. The plane angle is adjusted by moving the rotation control lever of the rotation circle. The applicable working conditions for different plane angles are as follows.

Working conditions Blade angle Cutting angle (°) Plane angle (°) Tilt angle (°) Cutting Loosened soil <40 -30 <11 Loosened soil ± <40 30-35 <13 Unloosened soil I, II grade soil <35 40-45 <15 Transporting Heavy soil <35 40-50 <11 Light soil 40 35-45 <13 Roadbed leveling and trimming 40 45-55 <18 Spreading, mixing and compacting 40-60 55-90 <30

3. Adjustment of the tilt angle

The tilt angle refers to the angle formed by the left and right ends of the blade being at different heights and the ground. The tilt angle is adjusted by moving the left and right blade lifting control levers to make the two lifting cylinders extend or retract unevenly.

4. Adjustment of the side extension of the blade

The side extension of the blade refers to the blade extending to the left or right side of the machine body. The adjustment method is as follows:

1. For short-distance side extension, just move the blade movement control lever.

2. For long-distance side extension, adjust the fixed position of the piston rod of the blade movement cylinder, and then move the blade movement control lever.

3. For ultra-long-distance side extension, change the position of the traction frame movement cylinder to make the traction frame and the blade move as a whole, and then move the blade movement control lever.

5. Adjustment of the side inclination of the blade

The side inclination of the blade refers to adjusting the blade to the outside of the machine body for slope scraping operations.

1. Adjustment of left side inclination

a. Lower the soil loosening rake to 10 cm above the ground.

b. Push the rotation circle rotation control lever forward to rotate the rotation circle slightly to the left (counterclockwise) and move the blade. If the ball joint of the piston rod of the blade lifting cylinder is not in the right hole of the blade, move it to the right hole before moving the blade.

c. Remove the fixed pin of the traction frame movement frame and move the control lever to fix the movement frame in the left hole of the guide frame.

d. Remove the left and right pins connecting the blade lifting support frame and the guide frame.

e. Move the left and right blade lifting control levers to extend the left hydraulic cylinder piston rod and shorten the right hydraulic cylinder piston rod, so that the support frame moves to the right side of the guide frame. When the second hole on the right side of the support frame aligns with the right hole of the guide frame, install the fixed pin.

f. Check the hydraulic lines and eliminate any twisting of the flexible hoses.

g. Move and rotate the blade appropriately to adjust it to the left side of the machine body.

2. Adjustment of right side inclination

a. Rotate the rotation circle and move the blade so that the center of the blade is about 25 cm to the left of the grader's symmetrical axis and lower the blade to the ground.

b. Move the ball joint of the piston rod of the blade movement cylinder to the left hole of the blade.

c. Remove the traction frame movement cylinder and its piston rod, and fix them to the right hole of the guide frame and the right ball joint of the traction frame respectively.

d. Remove the left and right pins connecting the blade lifting cylinder support frame and the guide frame.

e. Move the left and right blade lifting control levers to extend the left hydraulic cylinder piston rod and shorten the right hydraulic cylinder piston rod, so that the support frame moves to the right side of the guide frame. When the second hole on the right side of the support frame aligns with the right hole of the guide frame, install the fixed pin.

f. Check the hydraulic lines and eliminate any twisting of the flexible hoses.

g. Move and rotate the blade appropriately to adjust it to the right side of the machine body. 2 Adjustment for rightward inclination

a. Rotate the swivel ring and move the blade so that the center of the blade is about 25 cm to the left of the centerline of the motor grader, and lower the blade to the ground.

b. Move the blade cylinder piston rod spherical pivot to the left hole of the blade.

c. Remove the blade lift cylinder and its piston rod, and fix them respectively to the right hole of the guide frame and the right spherical pivot of the drawbar.

d. Remove the left and right shaft pins that fix the blade lift cylinder support frame to the guide frame.

e. Retract the left blade lift cylinder piston rod and extend the right blade lift cylinder piston rod to move the support frame to the left of the guide frame. When the second hole on the left side of the support frame aligns with the left hole of the guide frame, install the fixing pin.

f. Check the hydraulic hoses to prevent twisting.

g. Operate the blade lift and swivel ring rotation to adjust the blade to the right side of the machine body.Bulldozer
